aren't you an american icon? yes teresa, i am.

so i started a new job today that required me to jet-set down to hot-lanta, ga for a seminar. it was a good time. my new co-workers seem really down to earth and easy to work with. then on the way home on the concourse of ATL i happened to see teresa scanlan, miss america 2011 approaching from about 100 feet. as a huge miss america fan i decided to keep my cool and just say hi so that i could get a photo with her, see below.

unfortunately the 12 year old girl who lives within me had other plans and she started using my body to scream "oh my god, you're miss america, hi teresa! i love your work!" as though she were justin beiber. i may have peed a little.
the good news, she was incredibly nice and flattered that i was so excited to see her and recognized her in the crowd. bad news, i am fairly certain i will eat lunch alone for at least the first year i spend at this office.
totally worth it.

life and death in hollywood

its justin biebers 17th birthday and he is celebrating with a new haircut. that's right he is retiring the lesbieber. well, maybe he's just a new kind of lesbieber. you be the judge below:
old hair:

new hair:

Either way, i'm sure the los angeles branch of chuck e. cheese's will be happy to welcome j. biebs and his rugrat crew.

in other news, hollywood lost a legend last night. jane russell died at age 89 in her home. i imagine she and marilyn monroe met up again in heaven and will be doing a performance of "two little girls from little rock" tonight in heaven's cloud nine lounge.

rest in peace, jane.

little golden men and red rugs

ok, so the oscars were last night and i agreed with all the awards. the rundown of the major awards is as follows:
best pic and best director went to the king's speech.
best lead actor/ actress: colin firth, the king's speech/natalie portman, black swan
supporting actor/ actress: christian bale, the fighter/ melissa leo, the fighter
the actual show - anne hathaway was stellar, but it didn't matter because james franco sucked. anne should have hosted on her own. i said it on facebook and i'll say it here, hollywood needs to greenlight this project - thoroughly modern millie the movie starring anne hathaway as millie dilmount and justin timberlake as jimmy smith. go!

now on with the good stuff, the fashion. first i'll talk about the men. russell brand was great. i wish his hair was a little less greasy, but this is how you do different. christian bale on the other hand, was still wearing his SAG award suit. it was terrible then and its terrible now.

Best dressed man to me was a tie between jude law and justin timberlake. simple, classic, elegant. bravo, gentlemen.

that being said, let's talk turkey - gowns. there were lots of great things to talk about. some for good reasons, some for bad. lots of surprises - hold onto your wigs and keys, kids. here it comes!
I loved, loved, loved cate blanchett's artful gown. it was totally high-art fashion. the craftsmanship involved in this gown is unbelievable. it is edwardian grace mixed with samurai strength. not a dress for the pageant set, but beautiful nonetheless!

hilary swank and halle berry both ran backstage at miss usa, grabbed a dress, and showed up on the red carpet. trust me, you will see replicas of these two dresses on every pageant stage for the next three years at least.

when she first walked onstage i thought scarlett johansson's gown was incredible. but then upon seeing it closer, i realized the back is great, the front needs some tweaking, and it was just a bit too snug. makeup - flawless, hair, a little frizzy, even for the tousled look.

my first runner up for worst dressed woman breaks my heart because she is one of my favorite actresses. but why did annette bening show up dressed like chicago's smurfit-stone building of adventures in babysitting fame? ugh.

worst dressed winner hands down is melissa leo in the gold and white foil wallpaper she peeled off the wall of elton john's guest bathroom - seriously, wtf? but what hurts even worse, because i love them so much, is reese witherspoon and amy adams. they are polar opposites of too much and not enough. reese in a black strapless with white banded neckline and poofy brigitte bardeaux hair looks like she just gave the maid of honor toast at her best friend's wedding and grabbed a cab in time to get to the oscars. reese, next time, make sure your hairpiece matches your hair. if there was ever an appropriate time for an emoticon on this blog, it is now :-( . on the other end of the spectrum was amy adams - too much. now her gown is gorgeous. but a fully spangled high-neck, cap-sleeved midnight blue gown is already a big statement. that means tone everything else down, minimal jewels (perhaps stud earrings and a cocktail ring) and a sleek ponytail would have been perfect.

my best dressed pic will shock you. runners up were mila kunis who floated down the red carpet in a lavender lace and chiffon frock that was daring but tasteful with soft hair and dewy makeup. nice. next was the totally adorable 14 year old best supporting actress nom, hailee steinfeld in a sweet pink confection of a ball dress which she helped design reminiscent of a young audrey hepburn topped by a fred leighton diamond headband. priceless. and in a shocking turn of events - because i hate her like poison - my best dressed winner is celine dion. her heart was still going on in a sleek, modern, platinum, metallic and pearlized column gown with a dazzling pendant necklace (le cor de la mar?) balanced by soft loose curls. as much as i want to tie celine to a post and light her on fire (blame canada), she really did look the best. and i have to give her mad props because she did have twins 4 months ago and her body looks real good.

but seriously, thoroughly modern millie starring anne and jt would be unreal!

i'd like to thank the academy

so the oscars are tomorrow night. i have to admit, i haven't seen much of anything that is nominated. but i still love oscar night. i love the red carpet even more. but the best part is the fashion wrap up on monday with Wayland and Madame gays and Joan Rivers. i will be at the theatre during the actual telecast. thank buddah for dvr!
